We’re keen to do our bit for the environment here at Space Station, and our green polices are there to reduce our impact as much as we can. We’ve pledged to minimise our carbon footprint through a holistic approach and new renewable energy initiatives.
Our industry-leading sustainability initiatives include a commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by the end of 2025. Julie Windress, Property and Asset Manager at Space Station, says: “At Space Station, we believe in building a sustainable future, and we are committed to reducing our environmental impact.”
Our goal is to inspire others to join us in this journey, and we are confident that together, we can make a significant difference.
From the construction of new carbon-neutral stores to the retrofitting of existing facilities with energy-efficient technologies, we’ve considered every way possible to reduce our overall environmental impact as part of our Going Green initiative.
We’re implementing water-saving measures. Methods like harvesting rainwater and using smart meters reduces our water consumption - especially with the addition of our low flow fixtures – and mitigates water damage risks.
Rainwater harvesting is just one example of reducing pressure on public water utilities and infrastructure, while also making us more resilient to the effects of climate change.
We’re promoting biodegradable materials. Encouraging the use of recyclable materials in our packaging and construction processes results in less waste ending up in landfill.
Using biodegradable materials means they break down over time, leading to a larger reduction in the volume of waste created.
We’re encouraging employees to adopt sustainable options, and planting trees as they do so. Our On Hand charity app is there to help our team engage and contribute to small challenges, like turning the tap off when you’re brushing your teeth or cycling into work.
We’re an organisation that lives by its values, and our team want to be part of the Space Station contribution to reducing greenhouse gases, noise, air and water pollution. Every action makes a huge difference, and so, for every small challenge completed, the On Hand app will reward us with points. More points gained = more trees planted.
Going green isn’t new to us - you’ll be able to see our eco-friendly policies in action every time you step into a Space Station store. We’re committed to responsible storage, giving you the space to keep and reuse your belongings, rather than sending them to landfill.
