We recently set out to discover the UK’s most bizarre holiday souvenirs and we received images of all kinds of weird and wonderful trinkets, from canned Bigfoots to fluffy tarsier hats.
The winner of our competition was Nile from Sheffield, who received a £250 holiday voucher to help towards his next trip.
You can see Nile’s entry and the other best submissions below.
For those needing extra space to store their strange souvenirs, you may want to consider using personal storage to help you house your wacky belongings.
Nile from Sheffield, the winner of the £250 holiday voucher, brought home this strange ornament from Ibiza: “This weird little guy was found in a charity warehouse in Ibiza. It cost 2 Euros and is probably haunted. Me and my partner like to collect weird holiday souvenirs.”
Edith from Sheffield, shared from her trip to Canada: “This unusual souvenir was a gift for my sister following my travels across Canada. More commonly known as Bigfoot, a Sasquatch is a legendary creature said to inhabit North American and Canadian forests. My sister and I used to spend a lot of time as kids reading about Bigfoot and other folklore creatures. I never thought I’d find one in a can though!”
Fiona from London, brought back her childhood cereal from France: “It’s my favourite childhood cereal and they no longer sell it in England which is very sad indeed. It cost about €4 and I have tried my absolute best to make the box last as long as possible. I didn’t actually open them for three months after getting home. Are they French? No. Are they an American cereal? Yes. Would it have been more appropriate to bring back some croissants or authentic cheese? Yes. But next time I go I’ll be buying another box!”
Dawn Gray found a strange dog toy while in Turkey: ““It caught my eye because it’s so strange. It looks like a llama with lipstick, a swimming costume, nail varnish and flip flops. It’s my dog’s favourite toy!”
May, from Manchester, found this little creature while holidaying in Greece: “I found this item in a small shop in Greece. My friend and I originally took a picture to share with my sister as we had no idea what it was but thought it was cute. We then went back to buy it for her. To this day I still have no clue what it is, but it takes pride of place on my sisters' windowsill.”
Alice, from Leeds, shared from her trip to Japan: “Back in 2019 I went to the nissin noodle factory in Japan and made my own cup noodle! It was a great experience, and I thought this souvenir was something not many people can say they have!”
James, from York, discovered this drum skin while in Rio de Janeiro: “I was lucky enough to visit Rio de Janeiro during Carnival season in 2017, and the highlight was watching the massive parade at the Sambadrome. I'm a huge Beatles fan so loved seeing the Beatles-themed floats and costumes at one section of the show. Afterwards, when we went outside, we saw some of the performers ditching their costumes and props, including a drum featuring the Sergeant Pepper logo. So, I cut the drum skin off and took it home - a genuine prop from the Rio Carnival! It's now framed on my wall at home.”
Flora, from London, discovered this tarsier hat while travelling the Philippines: “I bought this crazy hat from the Philippines. I went to go see a tarsier and brought this back with me. I think the hat looks more like a gremlin but love it nonetheless!”
